 China is currently experiencing an outbreak of human metapneumovirus (HMPV), leading to concerns among the population. This virus is spreading rapidly, resulting in a significant number of hospitalizations. 


What is HMPV?


Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that primarily affects children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. It infects the respiratory tract, potentially leading to serious illnesses such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis.

Transmission:


HMPV spreads through droplets released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Additionally, touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the eyes, nose, or mouth can lead to infection. 


Precautions:


Wash hands regularly


Wear masks in crowded places


Maintain distance from infected individuals


Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
